Trauma Resolution

THERAPY FOR TRAUMA AND EATING DISORDERS

Trauma resolution therapy is a specialized therapeutic approach aimed at addressing past traumatic experiences and their impact on an individual’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being. At Remedy Therapy Center for Eating Disorders, trauma resolution therapy is an integral part of our comprehensive treatment approach for individuals struggling with eating disorders who have experienced trauma.

What is Trauma Resolution Therapy?

Trauma and eating disorders are often deeply interconnected, and trauma resolution therapy encompasses a range of therapeutic modalities and techniques designed to help individuals process and integrate traumatic memories, emotions, and beliefs. These approaches include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), somatic experiencing, and narrative therapy, among others.

Remedy Therapy How We Use Trauma Resolution Therapy to Treat Eating Disorders

At Remedy Therapy Center for Eating Disorders trauma resolution therapy is utilized to address the following issues in individuals struggling with eating disorders:

Trauma Processing:

Trauma resolution therapy provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to process and integrate traumatic memories, emotions, and beliefs related to their past experiences. Therapists guide individuals through structured exercises and interventions to help them make sense of their trauma and work towards healing.

Symptom Reduction:

Trauma resolution therapy aims to reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), such as intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and avoidance behaviors. By addressing the underlying trauma, individuals experience relief from distressing symptoms and gain a greater sense of control over their lives.

Coping Skills Development:

Trauma resolution therapy teaches individuals practical skills and coping strategies to manage distressing emotions and triggers associated with their trauma. These skills include grounding techniques, relaxation exercises, mindfulness practices, and emotion regulation strategies, empowering individuals to navigate difficult situations with greater resilience and self-awareness.

Integration of Trauma and Eating Disorder Treatment:

Trauma resolution therapy integrates seamlessly with eating disorder treatment, addressing the complex interplay between trauma and disordered eating behaviors. Therapists help individuals understand the connections between their trauma history and their eating disorder symptoms, facilitating a deeper understanding of their experiences and promoting lasting recovery.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful and evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. In the context of eating disorder treatment, EMDR is particularly effective in addressing the deep-rooted traumas that often contribute to disordered eating behaviors.

At Remedy Therapy Center for Eating Disorders, we utilize EMDR to help patients confront and reprocess traumatic memories that may be driving their eating disorder. By using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR enables individuals to access and reframe distressing memories in a way that reduces their emotional impact. This process helps to break the cycle of negative thoughts and behaviors associated with trauma, allowing patients to develop healthier coping mechanisms and a more positive relationship with food and body image.

Incorporating EMDR into our comprehensive programming allows us to address the underlying emotional wounds that can hinder recovery, paving the way for lasting healing and well-being. Through this holistic approach, we empower our patients to overcome the challenges of both trauma and eating disorders, supporting their journey towards a healthier, more fulfilling life.

The Importance of Trauma Resolution Therapy for Eating Disorder Treatment

Trauma resolution therapy is essential for individuals struggling with eating disorders who have experienced trauma for several reasons:

Addressing Underlying Trauma:

Trauma resolution therapy allows individuals to address the underlying trauma that may be contributing to their eating disorder symptoms. By processing and resolving past traumatic experiences, individuals can reduce the need for maladaptive coping mechanisms such as disordered eating behaviors.

Holistic Healing:

Trauma resolution therapy promotes holistic healing by addressing the emotional, psychological, and relational effects of trauma on an individual’s well-being. By addressing trauma-related symptoms and triggers, individuals can experience greater stability, resilience, and overall quality of life.

Enhancing Treatment Outcomes:

Trauma resolution therapy enhances the effectiveness of eating disorder treatment by addressing underlying trauma-related issues that may be maintaining or exacerbating disordered eating behaviors. By integrating trauma-focused interventions into treatment, individuals can achieve more meaningful and sustainable recovery outcomes.

Empowering Individuals:

Trauma resolution therapy empowers individuals to reclaim their sense of agency, autonomy, and self-worth in the aftermath of trauma. By processing and resolving traumatic memories, individuals can develop a greater sense of self-awareness, self-compassion, and resilience, enabling them to live fulfilling and meaningful lives free from the constraints of their past experiences.

Remedy has saved my life!!! Truly I mean that with all my heart. I came in broken I had just lost my best friend to suicide and my eating disorder got out of hand. As once told to me the eating disorder voice was way louder than my recovery voice. Since being here I have gained hope back and have a purpose to actually live, something I lost a long time ago and thought I’d never get back. I accept myself as is and now view food not as “healthy or unhealthy” but as food….food is food. I am beyond grateful for all the staff and the peers that were here while I was and there isn’t enough words to express my appreciation for them. Thank you remedy for helping me get my life back

i've been a patient at remedy therapy for a little over three months and i depart tomorrow. remedy is truly a very special place and i am grateful for all of the staff and other patients i have met on the way. i have been to so many treatment centers over the last decade and i will say they truly care about you here. never once have i felt unsafe because of anyone else. i will admit, i have not fully grasped the concept of recovery because i have not been fully ready for it but remedy has still supported me despite that and pushed me past my comfort zones. i had to learn to find comfort in the discomfort. remedy therapy is a place where healing truly begins. i would like to reiterate the fact that they truly care about you here. you are not just a number. amanda and jamie are the best dietitians i have ever worked with and you have amazing techs like ms. patti, jam, and jazz who see this job as more than just a job. i learned a lot about myself here. at remedy therapy, everything is individualized. therefore, they don't just slap a "one-size-fits-all" bandaid on your recovery. if anyone i know is struggling with an eating disorder, this is the place i would 1,000% recommend time and time again. to me, these people have become my recovery family. i've watched so many people come in struggling, myself included, and they walk out a completely different person. don't be afraid to reach out to remedy, they're just a phone call away. #beatingeatingdisorders

Going to Remedy Therapy was best decision I ever made. I went in feeling scared and alone, but left empowered and understood by the community as a whole. The environment was safe and fostered support like I've never seen. Like any treatment center, it had it's difficult moments, but I learned so much from the experience as a whole- not only about myself but compassion for others as well. Leaving my life behind to commit to this program was hard, but so worth it. The house was cozy, the staff was always there to listen and push me in the direction I needed to go, and the people just get you like nobody else. I have nothing but gratitude for Remedy and would highly recommend to anyone looking to make a positive change in their life. Shout-out to Miss Patti for her unwavering love for anyone who is lucky enough to know her.
